DCWS Meeting: October 28

Canadian Tartan with Sharon Kleim

The speaker this week was Sharon Kleim. She is a tartan weaver and she showed us many samples of tartans she has woven. She started with the Canadian tartan and followed by samples coming from each of the provinces and territories.

She discussed how she finds the authentic tartan colours and patterns on The Scottish Register of Tartans and how precised they have to be - the exact number of threads and the exact colour matches. They are all woven in 2/2 twill using 18/2 merino wool.

And she ended with some interesting tartans - some from the Outlander series and even one for the  Skye Terrier, which is close to her heart as she used to breed them.
