FIRST MEETING 2023-2024
SHOW & TELL What a wonderful way to start the year!!! Our members, following a very busy summer, had many projects to share with us.
Johanne, who participated in the Saanich Fair recently, showed us the basket she wove as part of a demonstration.
Marie-José, who has been sewing for many years, showed us a bag she made. She used a fabric that she woven and gabardine to make a tote bag.
Also, she showed a woven basket she made.
Cathy showed us a beautiful shawl she made (100% wool). She has been busy also spinning merino wool.
First, JoAnne knitted socks for her husband. Second, she explained how she knits a heel and a toe to a tube of stretchy fabric. Not that easy!!! Finally, she showed us a sweater she knitted with wool she spun.
Helen surprised us by showing us a shawl that she knitted with 80% wool and 20% stainless steel. The shawl is decorated with beads.
She also showed un a woven bag that she found at the Thrift Store (coton warp, silk welf). It reminded her of a similar pattern.
Terence, who grows flax, showed us a scarf he woven.
Also, he showed us the printing he made on a linen fabric. The printed leaves on the fabric are indigo and woad leaves.
Ellen talked about her experience at the Icelandic Textile Center and the Icelandic natural sheep yarn she found there (natural dye).
Thanks everyone for sharing your projects!!! Very impressive as always!!!
