DCWS Meeting: February 14th

FIBER IDENTIFICATION DEMONSTRATION

Gail Maier from the Victoria Handweavers & Spinners Guild came to present to us the outline of the course she took online from the Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio in Florence on fiber indentification. The mission of Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio can be summed up in these words: hand weaving, education, research centre, culture, events and publications.

Her course, which took place over several days, enabled her to identify several types of fabrics, their structure withoug forgetting the identification of the fibers of which they are composed.

Some members who had brought pieces of fiber asked her to identify their composition. The best way to do this is to burn them to see how they burn and smell.

Gail also invited us to listen to the following fiber podcast: Haptic & Hue, Tales of Textiles

Thanks Gail for this very interesting talk! We hope to see you again soon.
