The DCWS Guild was pleased to have Jean Betts as our guest speaker for April. Jean brought along a wonderful display from her rather extensive collection of buttons. The collection included: antique buttons; buttons made from metal & bone; buttons covered in silk, fabrics, various threads, yarns and cords - many of which were handcrafted by Jean herself.

A particular favourite was the Dorest button. Jean described in detail how to handcraft a Dorset button, starting with a small plastic ring. The ring is covered in a blanket stitch with thread, then a small 'warp' is created on the inside of the button. Intricate designs are woven through the 'warp' threads in the centre to create unique button. For a tutorial on how to make this type of button, visit:
