May Daze

The month of May has been full of warm sunny days on the Saanich Peninsula.  A wonderful time for the garden and time to reflect on our Weaving / Spinning / Knitting and other Fibre related pursuits.

The Joint Meeting with the Victoria Handweavers & Spinners Guild was held on May 15th and we had an opportunity to view the results of the "In The Pink" challenge.  Here is a sampling of the creative handcrafted items all with a PINK theme.  The stories that were told with the show & tell were as varied as the items themselves.  Thank you Victoria Guild for hosting a fun filled evening.

Our May 20th meeting focused on the "Log Cabin" design structure.  Judy Moores presented a slide show on the Log Cabin weave structure and brought a few samples of her work.  A table of magazines and sample books were set out for members to explore the weave structure in detail.
Isabel Jones explained how the Log Cabin design is achieved in knitting and provided colourful samples.  Log Cabin is often featured in Quilting designs and we were fortunate to have Avis Caddell show one of her beautiful quilts.

The Log Cabin designs were so captivating, the group decided to make it our "Summer Challenge".  We invite members to pick your favourite 'Fibre' medium and enjoy working on a Log Cabin Design over the summer break.
